Taxed as gunsmith in York Counte from 1779 to 1812. He worked He worked at the Armory in York after the American Revolution, until his death in 1812. Philip Heckert was on of the early gunsmiths. He is considered a superior artisan and carver.

The inventory of his estate was filed in the York County Court House on December 12, 1812.
